My son purchased his new car on friday, and arranged to transfer his current insurance to the new car on Thursday night.
The car is a 51 plate, but registered on 3.1.2002 - when the insurance documents came today, it had the car down as 2001, but because my son is now aware that it was registered in 2002, as he now has all the car documentation, , he rang to tell them.
The insurers have said that he needed to pay an additional £30, because the car is newer, and they give bigger discounts for older cars. Is this really right, and has anyone else experienced anything similar.
Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Doesn't seem unfeasible. Some insurance sites allow you to try various permutations of details such as car age, occupation etc. I know that occupation can alter the price by increments of less than that, plus the usual 'admin' charge and £30 isn't completely unreasonable.
You're lucky they didn't say "oh, the slightly older model? Computer says an extra £300" which isn't unheard of.0 -
Insurers do charge lower prices for older cars, so the older a car is the larger discount it normally gets.0

In my experience, if you tell insurance companies anything, it will inevitability result in a price increase. But then you're in trouble if you don't as well! So no matter what you do, you're stuck!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
