Energy Light Bulbs

Why can't they standardise them. I have just fitted a new lounge ceiling light only to discover that it takes a screw-in bulb, and I bought all bayonet fittings. Have to go out and buy some more now!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

lol, I thought you were going to say that you'd bought the wrong size of cap! Make you buy the right size of screw in fitting now!

Screw in bulbs were traditionally used outside though, so it seems a bit odd that you have them inside!
Better check the type next time!

Same thing has been puzzling me for some time now. It always used to be that pretty much everything was bayonet fitting, but I'm coming across more and more screw fittings. We've just moved into a house that has a lot of Ikea stuff, and they all seem to be screw fittings - is the screw cap common on the continent ?0
-
My understanding is that bayonet cap was a British invention, and so is common around what is now the commonwealth whereas the rest of the world went with the Edison Screw standard because it is cheaper to manufacture.0

The reason that so many lamp fittings are E.S, is that, whereas once we used make all our own light fittings, nowadays we import most of them and the countries where they are made usually have E.S as their standard bulbs. Hence they come fitted with ES. However, it must also be said that we import most of our lamp bulbs as well. Unlike years ago, it is now easy to obtain ES lamps in this country. When I was a lad there was very little demand for ES and hence it was difficult to get hold of them.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
excellent lights!!0

In the end, I couldn't be bothered to buy the energy saving lights. I bought two 60w screw in bulbs at B&Q for 88p ( less, of course, 10% as it was wrinklies day):T0
