Right ive got an acer laptop which in the last few months the cable used to charge it and run off the mains wasnt charging said laptop so basically when the battery needed charging i would plug the laptop into the mains hoping it would charge but the icon on the bottom right corner of screen representing the laptops battery wasnt showing the battery being charged.

I bought a universal adapter which wasnt charging eg the light on the laptop wasnt green which shows the laptop was charging so i thought it was because i was using the wrong socket supplied but ive tried every socket including the suggested 1 and it still isnt charging.

I bought the part of the adapter with the transformer(is it a transformer) thinking it would work but it still isnt charging the laptop even with the 3 leaf clover mains plug that came with the laptop and i got from work, the only light i get is an orange 1 that flashes for 5 seconds and goes out,

sorry if its long, where do i go next ? surely the battery isnt faulty as it was working until it went flat, could it be the socket on the laptop which is damaged,

That was an intriguing stream of conciousness post. I have read that some laptop batteries can get into such a discharged state that they cannot be charged. The effective life of Lithium ion battery may be as little as 24 months. They are perishable components as heat destroys the charge that they can hold. The presence of heat whilst they are fully charged makes them deteriorate at a faster rate.

If the laptop works with the battery removed, the battery has probably had it.

Let us go through the permutations.
If the battery is defective then it can be tested by swapping the original battery out and replacing it with an other.
If the swapped in battery charges then it was an original defective battery.
If the swapped in battery fails to charge then there may be a problem with the charging circuitry.
There could also be a problem with excessive power consumption due to some underlying fault on the laptop. This may have drained the battery. It is all speculation on my part. Perhaps you should consider seeking advice from those with the same laptop. There is often repeating pathology when devices start to fail.

i have 2 acer laptops and over the years i have bought 3 universal charger replacements, none of them worked with the laptops, the dc plugs on acers are a nightmare and the replacement tips very rarely fit properly,i ended up buying original power supplies from amazon, about £20 each, and they worked perfectly

its good speculation, it was the idea of haivng to spend more money on the laptop which i wasnt expecting to have done,
