Hi Can anyone help me please.
I have a daughter already at Uni and a son going this year - when we apply for the loans (we are not assessed) will the fact that I have 2 kids at uni have any effect on how much loan they are given - will I have to contribute double or are there some allowances made? I tried looking on their website but couldn't find anything about this. Thanks

There is a disregard on your household income of just over £1100 per child that is dependent on you (can't remember exact figure, not done a 10/11 assessment yet).

Any calculated contribution towards the means tested maintenance loan is split between both children. So rather than have that 100% on one child, it goes 50/50. You're not required to contribute the difference though. It's just a recommendation.

My husband was made redundant last autumn. We didn't do anything because he got redundancy pay, but for the next tax year (2010/11) we'll have about £18,000(gross).
Do we give them last year's figures and then risk confusing them in April with a change of circumstances form, or should we not send anything in at all till April and then ask them to calculate it on the current year?

Give the figures for the 08/09 tax year, and also complete a Current Year Income form, which should be available nearer the start of the course from the website.

Our next youngest hasn't applied to Student Finance yet because he has had 3 rejections so far from the unis he applied to. If he gets something through clearing and applies for a loan in August will it mean they will have to recalculate his big brother's?

  • Please help I am a muture student who has returned to college since September all the advertising saying we will pay your child care to train is not true. I can not get child care funding as the "pot" as they call has run out. Yet the radio is still advertising the fact that they pay it.

Am I talking to the wrong people????

Nothing to do with me, that sounds like individual college policy. What's the course you're on?

This happens fairly often and there's nothing you can do about it except apply early next year. The adverts will be referring to 2010 entry.
  • Can anyone help me please. Feel like im going round in circles.

I am at uni at the moment and have just applied for my third year loan, etc. Now my son will be starting in September as well, i had to phone the finance people the other day and she said to make sure that i link my account and his account.
I have tried doing this but it just comes up that the "alias id or birth date are wrong". Now ive checked on his account and what ive put in and its fine.
but could it be because his account hasn't been submitted yet or am i doing something wrong.

It is driving me mad, been trying to do it for the last hour.
