The cheek!!!!!!!!!!!!! He knocked your dog down and he's expecting YOU to pay for the vet who treated it, whom he called out himself?

You most certainly should not pay. Do you have the man's contact details? If not, ring the vet and explain the situation and remind him that it was his cousin who injured your dog.

    I am (almost) speechless.

I couldn't work out at first if this post was sarcastic.

    I guess not.

I think the OP should think herself lucky that the driver stopped. What if he'd left your dog? Your dog could have been disorientated after being hit and went on to be hit by another car, with worse consequences.

Your dog, your responsibily to see he can't get out of the garden.

I am with the majority - morally you have to pay up. The guy was doing what he thought right and you likely would not have been pleased had the dog died thanks to him not making the call.

On the other side, I am not at all sure that the vet was correct to do as he hid. The dog was basically uninjured and an 'owner' was minutes away. So why the shots an why the urgency to give them?

So it seems to me that the guy who hit your dog was probably acting with the best intentions but I get the feeling that his relative has milked the situation. Had it not been clear how the dog escaped, I would tend to think it a scam though...
    Always overestimating...

Pay up - absolutely no question about it for the previously stated reasons

Yep pay up, the dog should have been secured.

Personally I think the young man did a good thing, he stopped to see about the dog, got in touch with you, waited with it and called the vet. He could have just driven on...

Morning guys, was just checking my subscribed threads earlier and saw this one... needless to say I wasn't amused when I read 'my' post! My friends were round last night (to cheer me up as I am going through a v. bad patch with OH, but that's another story) and one of them took the 'liberty' of making a couple of joke posts using my account on MSE. Sorry for the offence, I have told him off. :o

p.s. for what it's worth, I agree with the others. You should be happy that your dog is safe and well and pay the vet. HTH.

  • What the HelzBelz was your dog doing out in the first place??
    (Sorry couldn't resist)

I have to go with the masses on this one. I know times are tight but you should be glad you still have your dog and the guy was a decent fellow. Some real scummers could have tried to claim for Whiplash.. vehicle damage... Shock and loss of earnings due to not being able to work by now.. be grateful and cough up!! It's the decent thing to do

if the amount isn't excessive I'd pay it and be thankful the dog is alive, the "shots" could have been to stop the dog going into shock, if you think the amount is excessive I'd argue the point and try and reach a compromise, just be thankful it wasn't the jobsworths at Belfast City Council who'd caught your dog when it was out you'd have been facing possible court action and a fine, first time or not (grievance? yeah I have lol!)

I thought someone was joking when they made that post, that's why I asked if it was sarcasm. ;)
  • I would hazard a guess that immediately the young man knocked the dog down he rang his cousin the vet to ask what to do, vet said ring owner on collar, if wearing one, but I will come out and check it.. He then rang owner and rest as OP as stated.

Again I go with majority of posters, pay the bill, thank the man for his time and kindness, some would have driven on!!
