URGENT advice needed...

Right, I'll keep this short.. My situation is this: I finished Uni this month and have failed my course. I have a £2000 overdraft, of which I have £10 left. I've been in the overdraft for most of my time at Uni, and my credit rating is pretty bad because I've missed payments on things. I'm with Halifax, so the max. overdraft I can apply for is £3000, and I applied for that today but was flatly refused.

The thing is, I really need the extension because my tenancy finishes on June 30th and I need £750 to put rent/deposit down on a house. I can't get any financial help from family, and I can't move back home either.

I'm moving cities as well which makes this so much more difficult. I can't get a loan and I've tried opening another bank account with an overdraft but was refused because I already have one outstanding. I'm currently looking for work and am in dire need of financial help. How else am I meant to find money for rent before I'm homeless? I'm so stressed at the moment, I'm pretty much having a nervous breakdown. Is there any way of appealing to someone high up at Halifax and explaining my situation? The lady in the branch couldn't do anything.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Jamie

Do you qualify for Jobseekers now that your course has finished and you are available and seeking work?

Even if you are eligible I'd be shocked if they could hand out a lump sum so quickly. Can't you get down to your local supermarkets and work all the hours God sends? In a crisis you need to be proactive not reactive.

I'd also suggest putting off your move and contacting your uni's housing dept to see if you could rent a room in Halls during the summer, or failing that ask your landlord if you could stay on for a month or so as he will be losing rent until next years' pickings come knocking.

I'd give up with the bank. They are unlikely to give you more money given your track record, lack of income, iniment move and the current economic climate.

I'm surprised that I said all that without a lecture, lol, but Good Luck!

£750 seems to me tad too high in your situation.
I'd consider shared accomodation to start your 'independent' life.
Single 'box' rooms start from £50, regular size rooms are available for £60-£80, paid weekly with 2-3 weeks deposit. So max you'd need is cca £300, in reality £200 should be enough for the start if you are not too picky.
You'd go even for shared rooms (£40-£50 per week). Surely, I'd go for it rather than increasing my debt without any source of income.
Lower your expectations, start from the bottom and go up - it's easier and nicer than plumping down from highs. And you can make a lot of friends on the way and have a lot of fun. Living alone is boring....
Whatever you decide, good luck.
