Solicitors - When?

Hi,
We have put in an offer, which has been accepted, on a property. We have a mortgage promise from the Halifax and I understand that we still need to do the full mortgage application and send in the surveyor.
My question is, when should we appoint a solicitor? As the full mortgage application has not gone in yet should we wait until after the surveyor has done his thing? After reading some horror stories on here, I would rather wait on getting the valuation done before spanking away more money on solicitors we might not need!
Thanks,
Dan

If I were acting for the seller I would expect you to provide your solicitors details within 24/48 hours maximum or would tell seller not to assume a sale and keep the marketing going.
Even if you provide your solicitors details - don't tell the other side but you can ask them to hold back until you are more sure of the finances.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build.
