"c" shares

i have noticed that many investment trusts issue "C" shares.... and that they specify the date when they merge with "ordinary" shares.
however what i dont really understand is what happens to the share price after the merge, because there is usually a discrepancy between the price of the two share classes. Do the "c" shares get revalued to the ordinary price? or is a weighted average taken?
thanks for any help
