recording data - help required!

Hope someone can help me on this.............

I work for a company that keeps a stock of parts. At the moment we keep this information on a spreadsheet. When we send out a part we then re-order it. We then overtype the serial number with the new one and it gets really hard to track which serial number went to which customer.

I'm wondering if there is an easier way of keeping a record. I've not use Microsoft Access and am wondering whether this would be a useful programme to use?

Any help, very much appreciated.

Surely a second spreadsheet page with customers items and serial numbers on would be all you need. The data can be simply copied before overtyping the first serial number.
