Please Help! Problems with Mint Credit Card

Hi
I'm having some problems with my Mint card which I driving me insane! I would be really grateful for and advice, experiences, or information you can give.
Basically, I paid off the remaining balance on my Mint Credit Card over a year ago (last April) and closed the account. After all of this went through okay I (very foolishly) shredded the paperwork and card.
I recently received a letter saying I owed them £5.06 which was residual interest oweing from when the account was closed and they had been charging me interest on this since. I was annoyed by this and the late notification but paid the money all the same to avoid any damage to my credit score. They confrimed the money had been received, that no more money was oweing at all and that I will received written confirmation of this and the closure of my account within 14 days (as I had specifically requested this).
I thought I would check my credit report and score because of this to ensure that it hadn't been affected so joined experian. My report was fine with no late payements and more score was excellent.
I thought this was the end of it and it had been resolved however 14 days later I had not received confirmaton of the account closurebut instead recieved an email from Mint advising me my balance was now available to view online. In my view this shouldn't have happened if the account had actually been closed. I followed the information and managed to log into my Mint account online which was apparently closed. This did show that they payment of £5.06 had been paid and received but the account was still accessible.
I again checked my credit score (the second £5.95 i have paid now for this) and it now had a late payment showing from Mint and had lowered my credit score by 64 points!!!!! So this had happened after Mint had received payment the same day I had been notified that I owed it!!!!
I contacted Mint again and requested the late payment be corrected and removed so my credit report will be amended accordingly and back to how it was before.
I checked it today and the late payement has been removed however it is now showing that the balance is now £5 and not £0 as it was before. I checked my account online which confirmed that the balance is in fact £0.
Basically, my account is still accessible and not closed and I really don't know how else to actually FULLY close it down so that it is inaccessible finished. My other previous cards show as 'settled' on my credit report and this is how Mint should show surely??!
Also, although they have removed the late payment, why is it now showing a balance of £5 being owned to them and how can I get this all finally sorted, i.e. account closed, no money oweing, late payment continuing to be removed and the £5 that doesn't exist being changed to £0 and the account settled and getting confirmation of this in writing in case they try any more funny business??
Please help!!!!

I sympathise but, to be fair, your so-called missed payment has been removed from your credit file and that's what really counts. Though exasperating, the £5 balance is not affecting your credit rating.
Only Mint can help you with this. I'd call back during business hours and, with as much patience as you can muster, explain things once again. Try not to be grumpy (though you have every right to be) and disarm 'em with charm. It's their mistake, but if you're both polite and firm, you're more likely to get the desired result.
If you ring Mint Customer Services on 01702 351155, you'll avoid the perishing 0870/0845 numbers
Very best

Thanks for your advice. I'll give it a go. At least I can rest knowing the £5 balance won't affect my score - I'm new to all of this so it's all quite confusing!
Thanks especially for the number - the other one has cost me a fortune to ring!

Personally I'd leave it a couple of months for the balance on the credit report to show as zero, these things usually take a while and aren't meant to be real time indications of the account.
It sounds like Mint just retracted the latest update. I presume it'll all rectify itself when the next update is done.
Also, I'm not sure in regards to Mint but other companies still allow access to the account online after it's been closed. It's usually so that you can still see the statements etc, so you may find that it has already been closed.
If they confirm it has been closed it may take a couple of months for it to show as settled with the credit reference agencies.
Even if the account is closed it's correct that Mint have issued a statement showing the zero balance and showing the payment. As the balance is now zero you shouldn't receive any further statements from now on.0 -
Thanks
I have to say that your advice has put my mind at rest a bit. I'll just make sure I hang onto the paperwork this time and give time for the report to update and hopefully it will all get sorted.
I'm grateful - thanks.0
