Pet Insurance - Justifiable cost?

New to this (and pet insurance) How can it be possible to insure contents of a house for approx £30,000 all risks loss - for less than it costs to insure a young pedigree dog ? (maximum annual payout £3,000) We all get used to car-insurers making us pay for other driver's claims - but can this be relevant to pets? Thoughts please folks! (and Martin.)

Well i should think its because at some point or another i think the majority of pet owners will make a claim on their pet insurance.... compared to a relatively small proportion of home owners making a claim on their house insurance. simple maths really. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

medical care for pets can be very expensive (it costs more to remove a tooth from a cat, than it does from a human being!), and the liklihood of you making a claim on your pet insurane is far greater than making a claim on house insurance.0
