Barclays customer? Can't withdraw cash? Don't panic!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8103271.stm

Some UK customers are unable to withdraw cash from Barclays' ATMs owing to a technical fault, the bank says. Its online banking service has also been affected by the problems with customers told to try again later.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Their whole system is broken - internet banking cash points and some phone lines. I was fobbed off with 'call back in an hour' two hours ago, by a staff member who told me quite insistently that I was 'mistaken' when I said that the cashpoints were affected. I called back just now amd had a conversation with a Barclays staff member who told me that they "don't know" when the problems will be fixed. We (work) needed to make some urgent payments to the Inland Revenue so I wanted to know when that would be possible - I asked if it was likely to be fixed in 2 hours, 2 days or 2 weeks because we might have to make alternative arrangements and she said it could be any of them  .

Mind you, she also told me that ALL the other banks had the same problem. I told her that HSBC didn't because I used them at lunchtime and asked her which other banks were affected - she asked her colleagues and funnily enough none of them knew.

Edit: I've just noticed that the BBC story above seems to think it's only Barclays cashpoints - it's not, it's all of them - it's having a Barclays account/card that is the problem, not the machine. I went to Lloyds and HSBC with the Barclays debit card and requested a balance but both said the service was not available but other customers with non Barclays cards seemed to have no problem.

All the banks?!?! hahahaha! That a pack of lies, unless she means people trying to use their Barclays card in another ATM - but this is still routed back to Barclays.

Believe it to be a hardware failure.
