Big Electric bill
Hi
I work all day, dont use the tumble dryer and dont have the heaters on. I am supposedly on economy 7 and have storage heaters. The immersion is on all the time as i have been told its cheaper. I have asked the electricity people to come and look at my meter as it costs £81 p/mth to heat my flat when I dont use anything (part from tv, appliances etc) This seems to high. My last place was only £45 p/mth. Any suggestions and experiences with getting the electricity company out to investigate and see if I am paying to much per month.

It is NOT cheaper to have the immersion on all the time if you are a single person. Just heat a tank of water up to how you like it (e.g. for a bath), then turn the heater off. Use the warm water over the next day or two til it runs cold again.
Who told you it was cheaper? The electric company???0 -
If you have Eco7 you should only leave the immersion heater on if it is on a separate off-peak circuit. Check you haven't left it on on a day 'boost' circuit.
I take it you are talking about actual readings and actual consumption? You are using £81 in useage? Over a whole year £81 is an okay average per month. Was your previous place non-storage heaters? Storage heaters are more expensive because you can not only have them on when they are needed.0 -
Agreed its not cheaper to have it on all time, only have it on if you need itworbikeman wrote: »It is NOT cheaper to have the immersion on all the time if you are a single person. How big is your house? How many pople live there? What appliances do you actually have? You can't say you don't use anything apart from 'tv, appliances etc.'
Washing machine, cooker, shower, computers, dishwasher, tumble dryer etc etc etc. Is your bill based on actual readings?0 -

Hang on. You write that it takes £81 to heat your flat. If you are heating your entire flat then that is reasonable - storage heating is expensive due to limited controls and its uselessness in summer.0
