help with vista

I have a new computer with vista. I seem to be having problems connecting any of my hardware as it doesnt recognise it. I have a fuji finepix F480 camera and a sony DCR SR35 camcoder. I cannot get either to install the drivers. I have been on both websites and contacted fuji who cant help. So
Is there any way of getting these drivers. I have seen driver doctor or something but that has a subscription charge.
If it is better to go back to XP as i have the cd. how do i get the vista off my computer. I cannot remove it with add and remove programs.

i hope someone can help

thanks

Have you tried plugging them in and seeing if they auto install?

Do you have another USB port you can try?

I find it hard to believe they won't be vista support on these 2.

All you need to do with your still camera is take out the memory card and plug it into your PC's memory card slot. Has the Sony camcorder got a firewire interface?

  • Hi,

Usually cameras/camcorders are plug & play devices that don't really require the disk unless there is additional editing software you wish to install. They would normally pop up as an additional device when looking in 'Computer' on Vista.

There are lots of devices that simply just don't have a Vista driver for them yet. Even though it has been out for 2 years (yes, it really has!)

You can't just remove Vista, you would need to install a fresh copy of XP from a disk. It would ask you if you want to delete vista and re-write you a fresh operating system. If you do this you will need to back up all your files, programs etc as if you re-install XP then it will clear your hard drive completely then you can load everything back onto it after.

To be honest I would go back to XP as Vista requires a lot of processing power to display all those fancy graphics and desktop widgets etc. I'm sure it will make your computer run much quicker without it.

Just wait for Windows 7. There won't have any problems like this when that comes out :-)

If you have XP drivers, you can usually get them to work in Vista by doing this.

Locate the driver, wherever it is (on disc, in a folder etc.) and find the .exe file - usually called setup or install.
Right click on the icon - in the menu that opens click on Properties.
In the window that then opens, click on the Compatability tab at the top.
Tick the box marked "Run this program in compatability mode for:"
and choose the default option of Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Click all the way out and then run the install program.

Firewire/IEEE1394/i-link are all the same and is an interface used for transferring video files.
BTW Have you got a flash card reader on your PC?

If you intend to wipe Vista and return to XP please remember to make sure XP drivers are available for your new hardware. I encountered this recently when my son decided we wanted XP on his laptop.

I managed to copy the video files onto memory stick so can put the files on my computer.
Does anyone know any good software for editing the videos, i would like to trim the files and maybe play with the audio.

    thanks to you all
