Our Friends and Family Railcard was running out, and I needed to book tickets to airports etc.

My helpful MIL pointed out that my OH could buy us tickets using his annual Season ticket - 'Gold Card' - at 34% off adult rates, plus kids can travel for only £1!!! - so actually even cheaper than Friends and Family tickets, where kids get only 60% off the fare.

Like Friends and Family, groups need to travel together.

But if - like many commuters - one of you has a season ticket, you can actually save yourself the annual £26 cost of a Friends and Family ticket, AND get cheaper tickets into the bargain!

It's not a well-publicised perk - I only found out about it when my MIL told us.

Not sure if it works across the country - may only work for London commuters.

But hope it will help a few others.

NB - You don't need to have a family - it works fine if just buying a single ticket for an adult friend, for example, as long as you travel together.

Works in the old Network Southeast area only but still useful.

When it first started years ago it used to be a third off across the country and 50% of in the old NSE area.
