Washing Machine - Best way to clean it?

You have loose sludge ( instead of stuck sludge)
.
Yes, I did think that maybe the soda crystals had loosened off the sludge.I'll try the crystals again.
I do occassionally do a 60C wash, everything else is done at 40C. I do think the gels have something to answer for though! I've bought biological powder to see if that improves things too.
Who thought that not putting in a filter was a good idea?0 -
Its said on one of the other threads , that the liquid/gel does not contain the bleach that the powder has.
But soda crystals plus a really hot wash , 90 degree will work
but might take a couple of goes0 -
I am really stuck, i have tried all the suggestions, i have used white vinegar in the conditioner drawer, soda crystals in the powder drawer and also poured directly into the drum, i have also tried neat lemon juice straight into the conditioner drawer, either on a 60 or 90 wash. Also wiped out the door seal, soaked the drawer in neat bleach, but i still cannot get rid of the smell...........!
My washing is now not smelling clean either, oh and i don't have a filter than i can see either, my machine is a hotpoint and is approx 7 years old.0 -
This may help.
It's an increasing problem with front loaders as they become more and more efficient and, to be frank, people don't bother to learn how to use modern machines and detergents correctly. That's harsh I know but, it's true from the perspective of we lowly service guys that have to listen to people telling us that their washing machine stinking is a problem or failure with the machine, when it's not.
You can se the effects in this article and the links form that provides loads more info on soap drawers, doors seals etc. all being covered in mould or mildew and how to deal with it.

I have never had this happen and have been using Liquids for years BUT as someone else has posted i don't shut the door fully unless it hasn't been used for a few days. Let the machine air. Its a bil like shower cubicles if you leave the door open you get less mould growing etc0

I tried the soda crystals and they worked a treat - for about 4 days, then the smell came back. It's so frustrating because i've never had a smelly machine before. I've also found grey sludge on some of the washing, and around the rubber seal. It looks like the stuff you'd have if you cleaned out a filter - but my machine doesn't have a filter (that I can see anyway!)
I had a similar problem with mine, and according to the technician it was a result of bacteria build up. I was recommended to use half a bag of soda crystals, some in the drum and some in the drawer, and then run the machine empty on a 60degree wash. I then ran it again empty with vinegar to get rid of any left over bacteria and break down limescale and it worked a treat! Hope it works for you! :A
