Barclays and reserve

Hi all, first time posting here. Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced what I consider strong arm tactics by Barclays. I think on balance they've done me a favour but to be honest I was a bit suprised.

2 weeks ago barclays contacted me to say that a cheque was going to take me over my reserve limit but in order to avoid charges they would extend my reserve to cover the cheque. what's happened though is that the whole reserve was taken and the best the relationship manager could say was that they can take it off any time they want to, although she was very sorry! I wasn't informed and the agent I spoke to has made no notes on their system. I'm annoyed but after reading posts on here about the reserve I feel it's a step in the right direction. Can't help but think it's been done because I just applied to reclaim my bank charges....mmmm coincidence???

hope you're all well

    As it's your first post, just by way of warning, the banking brigands will be along shortly to inform you that, not in any particular order:
    You are lucky to have a bank account at all;

    How dare you complain about a bank;

    They can do to you whatever they want whenever they want;

    You want to think yourself lucky;

    Technically it is within the rules;

    You need to learn to take responsibility for their mistakes.
    Good Luck! :D
  • thanks Calchas! I'll look out for that : )

    I apologise for the lack of responses: they are probably awaiting their leader.
  • After getting no joy with my contact at barclays I called the general helpdesk and was told the reserve had indeed been removed because I had claimed my charges back and this was considered a complaint against the reserve (although I wasn't claiming any charges from use of my reserve) and so the facility is simply removed! 500 down the pan and one in the eye for the consumer/borrower.

    seems a bit odd that they said they would extend it and then removed it - i guess just unlucky that both happened at same time!

    calchas - very helpful input! :confused:
