To backup your e-mails (and everything else other than the accounts in outlook), just make a copy of your PST file: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070

If you are in Vista, use the Transfer Files and Settings to backup the accounts: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-GB/help/96d5d811-6d52-4dff-b39b-76c64a131dfe1033.mspx

This tool, just makes backups of your PST file, which although useful, does not include, nor backup the e-mail accounts settings. (It is just the same as finding your PST file and making a copy of it somewhere else, but in a neat automated manner).

I use this tool to have Outlook backup my PST weekly to another drive as well as on-going backups.

I use Outlook 2000 at mo but am hoping (when I can make my mind up!) to get a new laptop.
Can I use this system to backup emails AND SETTINGS from my current version of Outlook and will it transfer hassle free to my new one? (I am going to shell out for the latest version of Outlook as I like it).
    Thanks:o

Depends on the OS. Backing up the PST file (or just copying it) will take all your e-mails, contacts, tasks, notes etc with you, but it won't take the e-mail account settings and passwords.

If you have vista you can use the files and transfer wizard to migrate just the e-mail accounts over, else, on the new system just setup outlook and re-enter the accounts manually, then copy over the PST into the correct data area.

Sorry, should have said, I use Windows 2000 Professional.
    Any difference?
