ECOTRICITY -first bill in 18 months = £1861!

I changed electricity supplier from EDF to Ecotricity in Oct 2007.

I have a letter dated Oct 2007 confirming my supplier number with Ecotricity. This was the last piece of correspondence I received from them -until today, 18 months later I received my first bill, which is a total of £1861!

I have called repeatedly & emailed to ask for a bill (I have a couple of emails to back this up) so it's not as if I have avoided paying. The letter also acknowledges their sincere apology for the amount of time it’s taken to bill me (problems with their system) & that I should call if I wanted to set up a payment plan to make it more manageable. Therefore they accept some responsibility.

I resent this as this massive delay & lump sum I am expected to pay is their fault.

Where do I stand? Can I demand a massive compensation & hope to settle to pay just the last 12 months & leave it at that?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If Ecotricity accept the facts are as stated above, they cannot claim for more than 12 months. ie. back to June 2008.

Also do not accept a pro-rata bill as the period from Oct 2007 until today covers 2 winters.

As you have emails to back it up the 12 month billing code should apply, please let us know how you get on for future advice!!

    Hi there

I deal with all ecotricity's complaints & can confirm that we always try to apply the back billing guidelines automatically where they are applicable, but some times this is missed, as in your case. All you need to do is contact us and we will revise the bill in accordance with the back billing guide lines, assuming it is applicable in your case. Mistakes happen, we're only human, but we always try to correct them immediately when the customer lets us know, so please do contact us. You can contact us via customer.champion@ecotricity.co.uk.
