    good heavens barnsleygal!

ours builders arent as tight as that! lol

but we will have to find the money for carpets, light fittings (they leave a rose and a cord) curtain poles and grass for the back garden. we have got agreement to them flooring the hallway in exchange for foregoing a fire as we never use one. and the bathrooms and kitchen is complete 'as per the showhouse' alledgedly....

hoping we get a good offer of them for p/ex as the money we save on estate agents will pay for most of it.:j

  • Yes...we were quite shocked! And the Sales Lady delivered this with a straight face! ;)

We also asked whether they could offer us any incentive...'Finishing Touches' is what they call it!

Anyway, they offered £2300 for carpets! I asked if we could use it for the extras and they said ok BUT if we had our own flooring fitted they wouldn't give us access to fit it before moving the furniture in! Useful!

It doesn't matter now anyway because we pulled out. Even in these desperate times they don't seem to be giving any leeway!

I think they know they have us over a bit of a barrel. there is so little on the market in the price range we want at the moment that it's this or take on a house that needs major work doing to it and i'm just not the diy type!:rotfl:

See those above are big reasons why we wanted a new build..looking at houses where we are they are very old fashioned! i honesly cant ever see one i like inside when i nose online, today when ide done the previos post i looked at propertys and they are awful! i reckon if we had bought one we would still be saving for a new kitchen nevermind the rest of the house! silly things like the light fittings and sockets etc do all add up and we got everything with our house except the flooring but it was i think well priced so wasn't fussed about it really. I love diy and would love to do our own home up but we havent got the money and im not in the sort of job where the house can look like a building site!

We did a part exchange for a Barratt 4 bed detached house 3 years ago, it was really straight forward and took no time at all to complete and move in. None of the build quality issues I keep reading about on here.
The rooms are good sizes and we have had no serious problems to date, a few small snagging issues but probably a lot less than we would have had if we had bought an older property.
The garage is a tight squeeze to open a door on a VW Golf but my wifes mini fits in fine, most garages of all ages struggle to take your average family car now though.
Would happily buy a new build again although I agree with Richard Websters comment about not buying off plan.
Dont expect to get the new build on the cheap while getting a really good price for yours if doing part-ex, its not going to happen!

    Goodluck,
    Mark
