Beginner's wireless question

This may sound like a daft question but if I install a wireless router in my house, do all the computers except the one close to the router have to be operated wirelessly? I have two PC's which would both have to have to be wired, preferably in different rooms, but the kids' laptops are wireless enabled.
Thanks.

No, you can connect them wirelessly or wired. Most wireless routers have 4 ethernet ports, so you can connect your 2 PC's by ethernet if you wish. However, if they're in separate rooms, it makes much more sense to connect them by wireless, either using USB wireless adapters or a PCI internal wireless cards (the latter being my preferred option-much neater and does not steal a USB port).
The PC nearest (next to?) the router would be better connected by ethernet, but you can use a wirelss connection if you wish for all the PC's.
Your other option for the remote PC's is to use Powerline networking, but this is more expensive.

If your not very tech savvy go with a USB wireless card for your USB port on the PC's. Cost about a tenner and very easy to use, although if you have ports round the front and back of your PC i'd recommend using the front, and other devices on the back. They occasionally drop a bit when you have several USB devices in use.

You don't have to have any computer wired into the router at all on most wireless routers, but you'll find its easier if you have one set up this way when you first install the network, even if you intend to use them all wirelessly once your up and running.
