Well we need to leave our house in 3 weeks time.
We were purchasing a house to move into but the current incumbants have only just had a survey done on the place they want to move into (2 months in!). I have my doubts that they will be able to move in 3 weeks time and am getting a bit worried.
I am going to leave it until the 25th or so and then we need to start looking at rentals/storage. I have to say this will be somewhat annoying.
Would it be reasonable to ask the seller to go into rented instead or renegotiate the selling price for the "hassle/6 months rent" etc?
I suppose its how desperate they want to move. All I know is we now have to be out here on a specific date but as it stands we have nowhere to go. How can it take 2 months to do a survey lol.

it doesn't take two months. There's something else stopping them.0

I was thinking that but I think they may just be a bit dozy/slow. Solicitor said they havent had mortgage offer yet. Problem is they waft and dont chase anything0 -
You're not going to get anyone else to sell you a house either in the next 3 weeks. So you'll need to prepare.
just give this bunch of drifters a deadline.0 -

I am going to give them two choices on Thursday, either move into rented or we will and give a huge price drop

Sounds to me like they're stalling, and there is something seriously wrong. I wouldn't count on this purchase at all if I were you. A large number of mortgage applications get turned down at the moment. I suspect behind this "dozy/slow" facade there may well be some furious paddling going on under the surface (forgive the mix of metaphors!) trying to secure finance.
I suggest you find somewhere to rent ASAP and start looking for alternative purchases.0 -

I have to agree so Thursday is deadline day - I am offering them the chance to move into rented - at least they will be shot of their house and in a good position to move - plus we are giving them a very good price - still if they want to stay on the market and potentiallly lose another 10k lol what can you do?0 -

Make sure, if you set deadlines, you stick to them.
In my experience there is as lot of 'huff and puff' about what pople will, and will not do, when setting these deadlines but when it comes to it most cave in and look silly. As such they then weaken their position considerably.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build.
