Ideas for a new life

Hi All

Today I lost my job! I'm not sad as it was not the job for me but this leaves me in a position i have never been before - unemployed.

Im not the kind of person to ever beleive i would be unemployed but I gues everyone must feel that when it happens.

I come form a long line of success and have a few quid saved and wanted some ideas from people in what i could be doing to turn this money into a new career.

I live in the south east and have a technical consultancy background in software but would like to move away from that.

For months I have been thinking about starting a business in what interests me but what i really want to do is find a happy medium between success and enjoyment.

Any ideas and experiences would be greatly received to help me in my initial thought processes.

Yours Dan

The trouble with owning your own business is that it owns you...

nothing wrong with that as long as you enjoy doing what youre doing. At the end of the day youre working for yourself and you're your own boss....

Ok, how about a skateboard park? It looks to be a popular pasttime with the young people round my way, but they have nowhere to 'grind'. And young people have lots of disposable income.

How about some sort of aquarium? We don't have a good one in the South East to my knowledge, I think the nearest big one is Southampton way.

If you're on the coast, you could start some kind of 'tea rooms' cafe type business for the tourists and old people. You know, scones and cream teas. Maybe specialising in organic or fair trade products to mark you out from the competition?

Taxi firm? Psychic hotline? Window cleaner?
Seriously man, there are thousands of things possible you need to give us a clue!!

    Hi Dan,
Are you male or female? Lots of lovely party plan companies out there mostly for women but some really good ones geared towards man and unisex now :)
You have your own business without the heavy costs of running a franchise :)
Have a look around and see what takes your fancy :)
    Good luck,
    Jenny :)

How about setting up a training camp for rodeo clowns?
I live in South Wales and Mrs Advent is always moaning about the lack of rodeo clown training facilities in our area.

    A little harsh?

We all dream of doing something new and worthwhile, and it's not much fun losing your job.

I read a book called kitchen table tycoon - it was really useful in helping me make my decision when I wanted to move on.

There are lots of opportunities out there regarding franchises or direct selling companies, but I would agree that we need to know more about what you actually enjoy doing.

The reason I'm doing well in my current role is that I tapped into doing the things I love and feel passionate about....so you need to think about that.

It also depends how much time & money you have to invest in your new venture. I combined my business with motherhood so all though I wasn't working in a full-time employed role when I started it didn't mean I could spend all day every day working on my business.

So tell us more about yourself so that we can give you better advise.
