Just to eliminate any confusion with regards to HSBC Debit cards, below you'll see all 4 versions that are linked to current accounts.

Image 1 is the front view of the full authorisation Visa Debit card which is like the old Solo card equivalent, i.e. spend what you have - you cannot go overdrawn, each transaction is authorised at POS.

Image 2 is the rear view - notice no cheque guarantee?

Image 3 is the HSBC Maestro - with cheque guarantee

Image 4 is the rear view - notice the cheque guarantee logo?

Image 5 is what replaced my old Visa Debit, it is no longer a 'full authorisation' card and means it does not require authorisation at POS

Image 6 is the rear view - notice the cheque guarantee logo?

Image 7 is what replaced my Maestro - exactly the same functions

Image 8 is the rear view.

That clears it up once and for all I guess.....

You can with a cheque or a withdrawal slip.......

which card have you got then mate and which do you prefer? I prefer the black Plus card myself.... its smart with the red rims.

I pay full whack mate but then again I have the second account so not too fussed.

Should get my new card this week - the hsbc mastercard (i'll post photo)... I'm going to cash a citi cheque for £2k and then BT this straight to my new card at 0% for 15 months and use the £2k as an interest free loan and pay £150 per month into a savings account - now thats money for nothing!

I have a citi CC cheque book but they sent me a cheque that I can use to BT at 0% processing fee so it wouldn't even cost me the usual £60 in fee's - nice one eh?

Thats what I call a plan mate!

nah we got him PPR'd the other morning, probably didn;t help him that he had 100 complaints in 2 days! I think it was someone else anyway, not saying who in public but put it this way - i've had run-ins with them before and they usually call me someone else! figure it out yet.... :rotfl:
