Sagem PVR 6240

This is my first foray into the digital tv world. Set this up this afternoon and can get quite a few digital channels which is fine. After I did a channel search I could get BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 5 in their corresponding numbers, but no ITV or Channel 4. I did another channel search and now the first 10 channels are all channel 5. So I've lost BBC1 &2 now and I can't see any way of tuning in any channels individually. I don't really want to do another channel search in case I lose anything more. Have tried calling their helpline but it's continuosly engaged. I really wanted the terrestrial channels as my old video packed up and I wanted this to replace it. Does anyone know what I can do??

What sort of aerial are you using?-digital TV really needs a rooftop aerial in most areas. A set top aerial will not do the job. Looks like your signal is weak on at least one MUX. Digital signal is 'all or nothing', unlike analogue.
If you are already using a roof top aerial then it might need realigning, or you might need a signal booster.
You can delete the duplicated channels as you wish, it willl explain how in the manual, but I would run the set up again from scratch.

  • Thanks for reply.

I have a roof top aerial and am happy with all the digital channels I've been able to get but I can't understand why I can't get the terrestrial channels and as I say I had beeb 1&2 on the first search then they disappeared, now it is only channel 5. Do I really have to do another search as that would be 3 and what if I loose channel 5. I really can't see anything to help me with this query in the instructions...I would have thought that that if my aerial needs re-aligning then I would be able to get the terrestrial channels but hardly any digital, or am I wrong??

If by terrestial channels, you mean channels 1-5, these are all digital. You can't get any analogue broadcasts through your PVR-the tuners are digital only. But different channels come off different MUX's, so you're probably getting a weaker signal on the MUX that transmits the missing channels. Below a certain signal quality, you'll get nothing.
I don't see what you've got to lose by another search, as presumably you do want BBC1 & BBC2. It should take no more than 3 minutes to run. And losing C5 would hardly be a disaster...

  • I must be really thick trying to understand this.

Why would I get a really good clear beeb 1 & 2 then lose them as soon as I do a scan, but no channel 4 or itv to be seen. How do I get all 5 channels? Can you try to get individual channels or can you only scan the whole digital network so to speak, just to get a couple of channels...If I can't get the usual terrestrial channels then I there was no need for me to buy this as I would want to record stuff from these channels more than the digital...

Because different channels come off different MUX's. You might get channel ABC clear as a bell, and Channel XYZ not at all, despite them being broadcast off the same transmitter. You can do manual tuning and again your instructions should explain how. But why not just reset up from scratch and see what you get, it's a lot easier.
All the channels on your PVR are digital, you cannot receive any analogue broadcasts. However you can receive the digital versions of the traditional analogue channels. I think you are confusing digital with terrestial: both analogue and digital are terrestial broadcasts.

I threw my Sagem away and got a Philips.
