Best 5 day New York break deal??

Can anyone recommend/know a good deal for the above. My sister is the big 40 in mid August & her hubby wants to take her on a 5 day(ish) trip to New York,he asked me if i knew of any good deals  .It doesnt really matter whether its flight only or a accom included,to be honest i dont know where to start. He has said that the dates are flexible so a month(approx)each side of lets say Aug 18th are fine,i would presume after would be the cheaper option? but as i say i dont really know. Thanks in anticipation. :D

August seems expensive for flights to NYC but they do drop towards September. I would recommend booking flights and hotel separately. Use this site's guide to finding the best flight deal. If you're feeling a bit brave and aren't too bothered exactly which hotel you stay at, you could go the "Name Your Own Price" route at Priceline. I've used it a number of times and always got a really nice hotel at a great price - usually about half the rack-rate. Have a look at Better Bidding and Bidding For Travel for pointers on how it works and previous winning bids. The sites are US-based so you'll need to convert the prices from US$ to GB£.

PM me if you want more info about using Priceline.

August is also DISGUSTINGLY hot and humid in NYC. And you will be doing a lot of walking, or heaven forbid venturing down into the sauna subway in the summer.

September prices and weather would be better. Search this forum for previous posts and tips (like 11% off at Macy's cause you are a tourist) and try

www.tripadvisor.com and their New York forum for everything you could possible want to know about the Big Apple.

Look at Expedia, Travelbag, Opodo and travelsupermarket for deals on flights and hotels.
