Postage discounts only if checkout outwith ebay?Is this correct?

Hi i recently bought an item off Ebay from the US for a friend. I asked them if i bought say 5 or 6 of the item would they offer a postal discount and they replied saying:

If you want to take advantage of our discounts please do not use
ebay checkout.

If you check out through ebay you will forfeit your discounts.

Let me know when you are done bidding/buying and I will send
you an invoice with the discounts applied.

We offer the following discounts:

* 1 item purchased no discounts are given.
* 2 items purchased 5% off your shipping and handling
charges
* 3-5 items purchased 10% off shipping and handling charges
* 6 items and up 15% off shipping and handling charges.

So basically if i checkout using ebay i cant get the postal discounts. I bought only two of the item via ebay (as the individual postage was quite a lot) so hence no discount was applied. The item has arrived and appears to be as advertised which is all good just i feel that this 'not going through' ebay request is a bit bizarre, any advice, should i reflect this in my feedback or where is the best place for such?

TIA

Hang on, you purchased 2 items, they arrived as they were meant to, I don't understand the problem or what you are asking for advice on.

I don't think they are asking you to 'not go through ebay'. My interpretation of this is that once you have purchased your items, do not check out through ebay as usual. The seller will then send you a revised invoice (through ebay) and you then checkout using the new invoice. For example, if I buy 2 items from a seller, I do not proceed to checkout, I usually click the request total from seller button and ask them to re-invoice me with the discounts. If you don't do this ebay treats each item seperately.

    As spugzbunny says. :)

It is possible I think to get ebay to invoice correctly for multiple purchases, but it's ruddy difficult (and very easy to get wrong)

I too think the seller is simply asking you to allow them to manually invoice you (else you'll be charged all the separate postages)
It doesn't mean you are buying outside of ebay though; you still buy through ebay.

I'm assuming the seller means that they want you to wait for the invoice.

some buyers are never happy, you get the items you paid for all as advertised and you still want to tarnish a honest sellers feedback

apart from anything you're very lucky to get any shipping discount at all with international purchases, for the simple fact they are charged per/gram or ounce.

I was asking what seller meant by 'dont use ebay checkout' as i am not familiar with how else to purchase an item or several unless i go through ebay checkout. I did purchase two items and did one checkout for the two yes but didnt know how to get the discount to apply or would have purchased more.

OK thanks, i wasnt sure what the seller meant, i did one checkout for the two items and wasnt aware of what 'not using ebay checkout' meant. Good to know for future, thanks.

Thanks i wasnt sure what the seller meant, i wondered as have never been told not to use ebay checkout before. So just wondered what other checkout there was if not ebay. Makes sense now, will know for future.

There was nothing wrong with the item so i would still have left positive but if there are postage charges for each individual item and when buying more than 5 i would presume they would be shipped together and the discount reflected upon the buyer. I was asking what the buyer meant by 'not using ebay checkout' should i wish to take advantage of the discounts in future. As i thought the buyer was asking me to purchase it without using ebay but now clearer on what they meant.
