Father Day presents that your father might want to receive....

I have a vested interest here as I'm a father. The other day I went into Asda and found myself in the Fathers Day gift aisle. What a load of boring, unimaginative rubbish it was. Socks, slippers, shirt and tie sets, Hollies CDs, etc. The only thing there that I would have use for was the box of overpriced lagers but then again they're currently selling 10 bottles of Stella for a fiver which is a far better deal.

I'd therefore like to suggest a couple of gift ideas that your father might appreciate.

Firstly in HMV you can buy series one and two of Early Doors for a fiver each. It amazes me how nobody ever seems to have heard of this programme. It's similar to The Royle Family but set in a pub and much funnier. Dads will love it and you can get every episode ever made for ten quid. Bargain!

Secondly, if your dad likes fishing Poundland had a set of Bob Nudd angling DVDs. There must have been about ten and at a quid apiece you can appear far more generous than you actually are.

Also one bit of advice on what not to buy (as well as socks, shirts and ties, slippers etc). If your dad likes Bruce Springsteen DO NOT buy his new CD. It's a rehash of an old greatest hits album with a couple of newer songs added on. Your dad will have every song on it already. Waste of money.

Hopefully my kids will read this post .

What a great post! I'm always stuck for what to buy my dad for Fathers' Day.

Any other dads want to give us their wish list of reasonably priced gifts?
(Can't stretch to a Ferrari daddy, sorry!)......

I'd just like to raise a protest at the number of crappy CDs currently being punted on the TV as being suitable for Fathers' Day.

Fully agree. Why would any dad want a CD with all the same songs as all the other ones. I've got as much REO Speedwagon in my CD collection as I need (and that's NONE).

Asda had an REM Greatest Hits CD in their Fathers Day aisle. Sounds alright expect it was an ancient Greatest Hits that came out long before they had recorded any songs that anyone knows. Please kids - do not buy this!

hah like the '101 housework songs' that they are saying would be great for father's day. Can't imagine my dad dancing round the hoover to It's Raining Men!

PS Early Doors series 1&2 is on HMV online as a boxset for £8.99 with free delivery. Never heard of it but down to FatAndy's recommendation I'll be purchasing it myself now via Quidco! For myself haha. If it's good then dad can be privileged to borrow it!

    Thanks FatAndy.

in the light of money saving..... my children are making their dad cards and gifts for fathers day,
he will be getting breakfast in bed, eldest dd is making a large cake. youngest dd is making a compilation cd (all songs will be paid for but is cheaper than a shop bought one) ds has made his dad a 'cheque book' with special offers for him to redeem. these include offers like the car washed or help in the garden,

    hope these help some....

Well, at least they are trying to sell that '101 housework songs' to Dads as well as Mums. I remember seeing that advertised for Mother's Day and thinking I would probably divorce my husband if he bought it for me!! I would also be miffed if he bought me any of the anti ageing creams they try to sell you to give your Mum for Mother's Day! How ridiculous to think that a woman wants to be reminded she's getting old and wrinkly on a day she should be spoilt!! Anyway, rant over....

My kids are buying their Dad three bottles of very good quality wine for his birthday - I usually make him have the cheap stuff - and they've also got him some aftershave and they're taking him to the cinema to see the new Transformers film, followed by lunch at Frankie & Bennys (Dad's eat free on Father's Day). I hope he'll be happy with that!
