I'M FLYING TO SOUTHAMPTON IN MAY TO JOIN A CRUISE. COULD ANYBODY GIVE ME ADVISE ON OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION AT A CHEAP HOTEL NOT TOO FAR FROM THE PORT? CAN YOU ALSO TELL ME HOW FAR IT IS FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE PORT.

The Airport is 5 mins on the train to Southampton Station, cost about £5ish The Docks are a very short Taxi ride from the station.0

Hi Debbie, I live in Southampton and there's a guest house down the road from me that looks ok - it takes me about 10 mins in the car to get to the port. Link for the guest house is:

Other than that there are quite a few big name hotels such as Ibis, Novotel, De Vere and Jurys all located in the centre but I should imagine you'll pay a pretty penny to stay at those. I know the Novotel is roughly £90 a night. Another fairly cheap centrally located is the Southampton Park Hotel:

Right by the port are the Ibis, Novatel and Holiday Inn, all about £60 a room.
If you book at the Holiday inn get a room looking down southampton water, you can then watch your cruise ship come right past you to the dock(does not apply to Cunard ships).
