How does ubuntu work?

Ive got an old pc at home and have just sent off for a ubuntu free disc what will hapen after ive loaded it as my os,what would you use as a browser to get on the net or does it all come up and set up as soon as you connect to net

    It has firefox on it as a browser.

    How do you connect to the internet at the moment? If you go through a router with a wired connection, then it should pick it up automatically.

    I'd really do a lot of reading up before you wipe out the operating system that's presently on your hard disk by installing Ubuntu...

    I have ubuntu on a laptop. I find it user friendly in comparison to earlier versions of linux based OS's. It also installed all the drivers my laptop needed without any trouble, including one for a usb wi fi adaptor that I had trouble locating a Windows driver for.
    I also found the best way to ''discover'' ubuntu was to use it, then surf for answers to anything I didn't understand. There is plenty of help out there. The friend who introduced me to Ubuntu no longer uses Windows at all.
    Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!
