Good £499.99 Laptop at Comet

Comet are currently selling the Acer Aspire 1691WLMi online for £499.99. That's £100 lower than the shop price.
Key features are:
* Processor speed: 1.60 GHz
* Processor: Intel Pentium M
* Screen size: 15.4" brightwidescreen
* Storage: 60 GB
* RAM: 512 Mb
* Records DVDs: 8x
with full details on the site.

I've been buying Acers recently for staff/clients and they've been very well received and regarded.

HINT: Buy the Acer extended warranty from eBuyer for below £55 for a basic three year cover.

ANOTHER HINT: 3.5% Quidco cashback brings the effective price down to £485.10.
Can I help?

    I imagine some people will prefer Dell and some Acer. My own experience lends me to favour the latter but I'm sure others may feel the opposite. I like the Dell Latitude but feel the Inspiron lacks build quality and reliability.

    Hi bubbles,

    If you have a Virgin credit card, then you can order £450 worth of Comet gift vouchers for £391.50 (i.e. 13% discount). If you can get Comet to match the online price instore and use your 10% staff discount, then the laptop would effectively cost you £391.50. This is a good price for this spec laptop, even compared alongside Dell's offers.

    On the internet you can be anything you want.It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

    The all important centrino, i bought this when it was £580 a while back and well impressed, great battery, nice and fast, wouldnt go back to a celeron. The warranty is also good value, especially if youre carrying around often.

    Problem is you have to catch the dell offers quickly, there wasnt much on offer when i bought mine so got this.
  • this has a pentium M processor, whereas the dell probably had a celeron. A 1.6 M is a lot more poweful than a 1.6 celeron.. A LOT

    Nearest Dell deal at the moment is e-value code N04137 for £479 delivered 90day collect and return warantee. Same basic spec but Jack is right its a celeron M. Or you could go for N04136 £468.45 which has 1.8 Pentium M but only 40G HD. Upgrade to 60G HD brings total to £521.32. All these Dell have built in WIFI but so does the Acer. You would need to upgrade the Dell battery pack for an extra £12 to get the same performance.

    So what you are all trying to say is...this is actually a really good deal!! Looks like a reallllly good spec for under £500 - and Acer are very good.

    Thanks rdwarr! Now...wheres that spare 500 quid I had lying around....;)

    No it's not. The Dell had a Celeron-M which is very similar in performance to a Pentium-M of the same speed. The main difference in performance is due to the speed of the processor. The only difference is that the Pentium-M has double the cache but for nearly all applications the Celeron-M still has plenty of cache. The main advantage is battery life.

    However I'd say the £499 is a very good price.
