Underpayment with disabled child

We've recently had our provisional notice through about the benefits we're going to get next year, and on it we've now got a disabled payment for our daughter; the payment though is only backdated until the 20th December 2008, when we have been claiming the lower part of disability benefit since September 2006.
I've spoken to somone on the tx credit helpline, and she said that the disability payment was added automatically as their system picked up the payments for our daughter, and as it was done automatically, then it only went back 3 months.
I' ma Police officer so I'm sure I filled in the forms in the past correctly(due to the amounts of paperwork I do!), and from what I can remember, it only says to tick a box if you're claiming the higher rate of disability benefit, which we're not.
She said that she'd send me an appeal form, but does anyone have any idea if we're likely to get any money back; and if so how long does it take?

  • 3 months seems to be the magic number when it comes to back-dating benefits of all kinds, however if you are sure its "their" error then you should appeal.
I cant say often enough that it always pays to make copies of any applications you make for any benefits/tax credits

There`are 2 different amounts for DLA CTC elements, the first is payable to all with a disabled child you wouldn't have recieved the severe disablement part so perhaps that's the part you didn't tick?
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
