advice pay reduction

Help please my employer has called me into a meeting to say that we must take a 50% wage reduction to help the business survive I disagree but in a memo he indicted that at the meeting we agree but we didnot. I am sure that they cannot make this happen we have been called to another meeting on pay day and they are insisting this happens if I still refuse what are my rights shall I keep fighting or shall or colud I ask for voultary redundacy can they refuse to pay me this

If an employer reduces your salary by half a weeks pay as they have in your case and it continues for more than 6 in 13 weeks you can ask for redundancy which they will have to pay you accordingly to statutory provisions.
Sounds like they are trying to vary a fundemental part of your terms and conditions which they must do so with your consent. If you do not agree to it then they will have to dismiss you, in which case you can claim unfair dismissal (as long as you have been employed for 1 year or more) and take them to tribunal. They will most probabily offer you your position back under the new contracted hours to reduce your potential claim to show they have reduced your losses.
Best thing to do is to put in a grievance straight away opposing the change.0 -
I was in same boat recently (although ended up not happening) Here is what the website I was referring to says:
The short answer is no - an employer can only reduce your salary with your agreement.
Should your employer attempt to impose a pay cut that would potentially be breach of contract entitling you to resign and claim constructive dismissal, after complaining through your employer's grievance procedure.:smileyhea0
