I had two payments come out of my bank account this week for Vodaphone £30 each also. I am also with Halifax and live near the Cardiff area....0

My DD had £30 O2 Pre Pay payment taken on Saturday  She doesn't have to get a crime number, just has to fill in the form they are sending.0

Same here with my Nationwide account. 1 EUR taken in Berlin and then 30GBP Vodafone Topup. I contacted my bank who cancelled my card and I should receive a refund in the next few days. I didn't need to get a crime number from the police.0

Hi everyone forgot to tick notify for replies when i made this thread.
I was just going on what the bank said that it was cloned. I've been to Cardiff and have used outside pay for parking. I honestly can't remember if I've given my card to a waiter, I did this saturday at wagamamas but I don't think I've done any other time.
I like the idea of removing the CCV as i can remember those.
I work at vodafone / vodaphone and we don't ask the CCV number so maybe that why they can pay with card over the phone?
It was the 1 euro charge that flagged it for me.
if we can all work out roughly where we think it may have been cloned we might be able to find them. I've also passed this info to our fraud department at work but not sure how easily they can stop this.

I tried to pay for a holiday abroad using my Nationwide cc, but the payment was declined by Nationwide. On contacting them, they advised that the reason for this was suspected fraud. We also had a £30 02 prepay payment put through. I was put through to the fraud department, who then allowed the payment for the holiday to go through, and then cancelled the cards. New cards were received within 4 days and the £30 was automatically refunded.0 -

If you work for them yourself, perhaps you could ask someone within the company why they don;t ask for this security information ? Point out to them that by not asking for the CVV they become easier picking for fraudsters.....0 -
yeah it's odd the new software we use did have the ccv when we're on the testing version when we were training but now it's not there also the software doesnt always work and we hav eto use old software which doesnt have ccv. I'll bring it up with fraud when I'm in tomorrow. I've already asked this to be put through to fraud but i'll double check the message has got to them. I don't work in pre-pay but I'll see if I can get a message to them to do extra security checks.
The other problem we have is pre-pay is different to contract. I was able to call pre-pay and use my card to add credit to my friend's account so that they could contact me but they didn't know who I was. Also not everyone fully registers their payasyou so we may not have any details to do security checks before taking a payment.
As far as I recall the data protection says we can take a payment from anyone and if they are not the card holder we must speak to the card holder (but we can't tell that it's not the real card holder) and we can't give them the bill amount but they can what ever value they want.
I'll let you know how I get on

Not exactly...
When I say camera, I don't mean an obvious blinking thing pointing at the keypad. If you look at many ATM machines / cash points they often have a black square coveing an area where a camera is fitted, you can't actually see the camera as it is covered up - but that's what I recall seeing and it's fairly common afaik. The fact I didn't recognise it from before didn't throw me off too much because the co-op ATM machine had been 'upgraded' or changed a fair bit not so long ago anyway (they updated the outer shell of the machine).
Take a look at the following URL for an example of the 'black square' i'm talking about (bottom right of the image):

Sometimes it's a small round camera that isn't easy as to notice, and while they're not on all machines I have noticed them on a few. Seeing as ATM/cash points all look different, I think it's difficult to tell if something isn't right - in my opinion all ATM machines should be standardised and look exactly the same, then maybe it'd be a bit more obvious if something has been tacked onto it!
Anyway, now that it seems other people have more accurate explanations and it seems to be hapenning to a lot of people at the moment, i'm not so sure it actually was the ATM and maybe I was just jumping to conclusions. After all, I did use the card for all my online transactions in the past, and as other people have said the card details could have been guessed with brute force techniques.
BTW although Halifax did not raise any suspicions, detect anything was wrong or take any action until I called them (despite the fact I hadn't used that card in a while, and never purchased from vodaphone or o2, and it was hapenning to other people at the same time!!) , they were in fact very responsive and helpful on the matter once I had told them about it and I received a brand new card within 48 hours - can't complain at that!
I'll submit my claim forms to Halifax and see if I hear anything more on the matter... they are supposed to find out what has happenned so maybe they'll confirm.0 -
I think my debit card has been cloned or someone has gotten hold of my details as I checked my Lloyds bank balance this morning and there were transactions in there for a social networking site which I didn't sign up to and they've taken up to £30 so far. I did lose my card on my birthday and the last time I had used that card was to get £50 out for going out on the night and now I'm suspicious as I think the ATM I got my money out of may have been one of those fake ones. I have a new card now, but I have no idea what to do.0
