just out of interest I wondered what other MSErs would consider as the minimum borrowed amount on a 0% cc deal, say for 6 months assuming no BT fees involved.
did any of you start really small with your first stooze?

Well I guess people's answers will very much on whether they're tarting to reduce debt, make ends meet, or boost savings.
I fell into tarting almost accidentally as far back as 1999 (possibly earlier) way b4 I was aware of any 0% offers. Having owed iro £3000 for a decade sometimes more, sometimes less over a few cards but always hovering around that level.
I started off by getting a Tesco Visa at a promotional rate of 9.9%, then Barclaycard 5.9% life of balance & RBS Advanta 5.9% life of balance. This was all about reducing what I was being charged rather than making money. Constant low level debt has meant that I'd always kept meticulous records on paper and juggled well for years b4 excel & MSN money made it loads easier (& made the banks a fair bit out of me in the late 80s, early nineties when rates were 25.9% and more!).
Some of my earlier records are archived or binned now, but since 1999 I've had at least 14 cards- 10 of them at 0% promotional rates. During this time I've also had a mortgage advance for improvement work which pushed up the amount of cash I had in "theoretical" savings to play around with which made tarting worthwhile.
In the last three years I've made £911.57 in interest according to MSN money on the PC; and that extra £25 pcm has really helped make a difference & has been worthwhile.
However, in a recent application Virgin only agreed to a credit limit of £1000 for 9 months@ 0%. That'll earn me the princely sum of about £31.50 which barely seems worth the (albeit limited) hassle. In the same week Egg gave me a £3000, but then I'd had a 0% card with them before in 2001.
I guess my point is you've got to do the sums and decide for yourself. 5% credit interest on 75K of stoozed cash is a very nice earner. Gaining 5% in interest on £5000 so that you can meet the next gas bill could for some people be critical.
And remember the old adage: money goes to money0
