Does walking burn fat?

I'm trying to lose stubborn fat around my midsection and my chest, its the only place on my body along with my lower back that has fat, but does walking I'd say 2 hours a day around a park with uphills and downhills burn fat?

If you feel your heart beating faster, then it will be doing some good.
Can't be specific about where it will burn it off, but it will burn it from somewhere.
Jogggging would be more efficient, but walking will do. The more you feel your heart pound, the better. How to find a dentist.

Why most of us believe that exercise makes us thinner—and why we're wrong.
Gary Taubes weighs up the facts and takes a controversial look at why the gym is not going to fix it
It was after reading these articles I realised my inability to exercise was no justification for being overweight.
My weight loss was achieved without any ADDITIONAL exercise. Not that I believe anyone should abstain from regular exercise, It's extremely important for both brain and heart function. But I doubt it make much if any difference to long term weight loss.
In order to burn fat your body needs to have longer periods with low insulin levels.
The video's here explain how we have been duped
When you stop eating carbohydrates, or at least get intake down to below 100g daily, your body will naturally be able to use the reserves of fat stored in fat tissue to burn.
Successful weight loss with dieting is linked to vitamin D levels this research showed those with each 1ng 2.5nmol/l higher vitamin d status lost 8 ounces more weight.
Each 100iu/extra D3 daily raises 1ng 2.5nmol/l
1000iu/d extra = 10ng 25nmol/l
most UK adults will require 5000iu/extra/daily to attain and maintain the level associated with least chronic illness.

I'm not an expert but as I understand it, any activity (even sleeping) takes energy. However, some activities take more energy for you to do them for example running compared to walking and walking quickly compared to walking slowly.
I believe though you only burn fat where your activities take more energy than you are gaining through eating food (and drinking things that aren't water!).
As such, walking won't necessarily burn fat if your intake is still greater than the energy you use. You may need to see if it does make a difference and if not you may need to reduce your energy intake or increase the length of activity or how strenuous it is. So walking at this level might burn fat for you or it might not!
However, the walking is still good for your heart and will help make your muscles stronger (so it might help you tone) even if it doesn't do a lot of fat burning.0 -
I was advised at a gym induction that raising the heart rate for a period of 20 mins to the point where you're out of breath but still able to hold a conversation ie fast walking or walking uphill takes you into the zone where you will burn up fat most efficiently and maintain that benefit for a period after you finish exercising.
Increasing your heart rate further by running faster, for example ,takes you out of the most -efficient fat burning zone and into the zone, which benefits more the heart and lungs but is less beneficial for fat-burning.
Unless the science has 'changed ' since then??0 -
Despite all the hype, and the moneymakers willing to relieve the gullible of their hard-earned cash, and the myths which abound, there is a very simple equation which applies to metabolic activities:
energy input exceeds energy output = weight gain (body stores it as fat)
energy output exceeds energy input = weight loss (body converts fat to make up supply)
call it basic laws of physics, basic laws of nature, whatever you will.
but the myth-mongers will prevail as long as there are people in denial of their own actions
BTW walking is a good exercise, especially up hill. The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.0 -
You will lose weight if you continue to eat the same but up the exercise. I have been walking consistently for two years for an a hour a day and I weigh a stone less than when I started. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

Do you really think exercise will make your grow taller or wider?
Tall Tales About Exercise
This is quite a good explanation of the way the body regulates thermogenisis.
When they eat more than needed to maintain their weight at that set point, their body becomes 15% more efficient in burning off the excess calories. When they eat less than they need for maintenance, which is what happens with intentional weight loss dieting, their bodies become 15% LESS efficient.
Study Shows Benefits of Exercise on Diabetes are Minimal
The people doing the brisk walking lost on average .2% of their BMI. (The researchers did not give the actual amount of weight lost.)
At my BMI, .2% computes to a loss of 1 lb. Over an entire year. The gym group did only slightly better. They lost an average of .8% of their BMI. That is about 4 lbs.
I don't suppose anyone will be surprised that exercise played no part whatsoever in my weight loss.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

just to add, when someone is very very overweight, large changes can obviously be seen through just cutting out the wrong foods and alcohol. for people who have a much smaller amount to lose will benefit greatly from upping the energy output. how people make the energy in versus energy out equation work for them is clearly personal. what is also undoubtably true is that different things work for different people (but i'd also advocate an emphasis on health over weight - being fitter and having a good diet is better in the long run than starving yourself!).:happyhear0
