Chkdsk utility help please

Can someone please advise how i can run my chkdsk utility. When I do it via Explore I get a message that says Windows Unable to Complete Check. When I type in 'chkdsk' in Run, nothing happens.

My computer is dying, please help.

    Can you boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt ? (keep hitting F8 after you turn the PC on until a menu appears). Try running chkdsk from there and let us know how it goes.

    In run, type in CMD and press return - a command prompt will open
    Now type in CHKDSK /F and press return

    You will most likely be told that the disk is in use, and would you like to schedule a disk check for the next restart. Answer YES

    Now reboot - a disk check will occur upon restart. The /F option means that any it will attempt to correct any errors it finds. Be warned, this can take a while!

    And, from experience :rolleyes: DO NOT turn the PC off whilst it is running.
