SPF Sun Cream for Face

On my last holiday I used a L'oreal SPF50 sun cream on my face, the result being I ended up with lots of spots.. A couple of friends told me this is quite common, and that apparently the Drs recommend a certain brand of cream which you can only get over the counter which is very good and doesn't have this affect - does anyone have any recommendations on which ones are good or has used this one which you can buy over the counter please?

I used the Soleil Face Defence from Tesco when I went to Spain last year, and it didn't give me spots.

Everyone is different though so there is no guarantee that what works for someone else will work for you.

I'm not sure a doctor could say with any certainty that a certain type wouldn't give anyone spots - it really depends on how sensitive your skin is, I would have thought.

I've used a wide range of high factor suncream for my face and none have ever given me spots.

However, I'm not prone to spots anyway, so maybe that is the reason.

it's hard to say whether I've used the cream that the doctors say doesn't give you spots as you've not given us the brand name.

Are you re-applying too frequently? I put in on once.

Are you using one specifically designed for the face?

TBH I'm not aware of any that are only available OTC. Perhaps you could ask your pharmacist?
    Gone ... or have I?

Following treatment for skin cancer on my nose, my Doctor prescribed a Factor 25 suncream in a tube made by RoC. Although it felt greasy when I put it on, it didn't give me spots.

It isn't the cheapest but I spotted that Amazon have a SPF 50 Spray on offer at the minute - Roc Triple Defense Factor 50 Spray

The product I used a couple of times is called Ambre Solaire UV Sensitive Cream SPF50 75ml

Having now read the "how to use" it does say "do not apply to face":o

That is probably where I went wrong :o as I am not usually prone to spots...

If anyone has anymore recommendations for good brands for the face I'd really appreciate it. Won't be making this mistake again, and it has reminded me to read the small print in future...

The person(s) who was telling me about the over the counter one said they couldn't remember the name of it but I guess a quick call to the Drs or asking at a Chemist might help me..

I only applied the one I mentioned twice a day at the most.

Some of the very high factor creams can be very thick and I think they block the pores. I usually use Clarins creams, for face and body which I have had no problems with. However, I tried their kids factor 30 cream a couple of years ago and the insides of my arms came out in a lumpy rash. I've had the same problem with another one (can't remember which, sorry) - it seems to be worse if they are very thick and are also waterproof.
  • Simple do a sun screen for face. I've got sensitive skin and have found it fine. I've bought a Nivea one this year which I have yet to try.

I seem to think i read somewhere that suntan creams shouldn't be kept from year to year. Therefore I replace mine each summer, and will not buy old stock.Have I got this right?
