Best Abbey Savings Account To Get?

I have a appointment at abbey on Thursday to open a Savings account, but i don't know much about these kinds of things so don't know what they will try to make me have, which is best and can you get ones that give you interest too?

thank you in advance for any answers x

It all depends on how much you want to save, whether you are looking at regular savings; long or short tem saving; whether you need instant access or can tie up your savings for say or 2 years or more, and your particular circumstances.
I think very few people on here would recommend doing anything with Abbey (search some of the threads) particularly when there are better rates to be had elsewhere. Check out some of the comparison sites

IMHO the best Abbey account is NO Abbey account!
Their customer service is quite dreadful. Have you tried getting anything done in branch or on the phone with them?

thank you for both your replies, the only reason i was going with abbey is that i have my only account with them, but now i want to open a savings account, BUT I'm not really up on everything financial so i really don't know which one is best and which one is less hassle and which one gives good or any interest. Any i am supposed to have a appointment with abbey this Thursday.
(though when i was in there booking the appointment the woman behind the counter asked what was one thing i was saving for, i said to move out with my BF -we live with my family at the moment just moved back up here last year- don't wanna be living here forever, and she tried to sell me or whatever they do a mortgage! we only want and can afford to rent!
Not looking forward to the appointment! ha-ha.

Well don't go then. Spend a bit of time reading the forum or sites like http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk/money/savings/5/instant-access-savings-accounts.aspx and see what suits you.

If it's an internet account, Intelligent Finance - IF - have just launched a savings product at a rate of 2.85% with a minimum balance of only £1.

Do some research into what it is you want. It will be worth it.

Just because you have an account with abbey does not mean you should open another 1 with them. If you go for your appointment, at least don't sign up for anything whilst you are there. Post here what you have been offered and and at least get some unbiased opinions, before you commit to anything.
Do you have a lump sum to put into a savings account? Can you commit to saving the same amount each month(regular savings) or do you just want an account where you can put in/get out whatever you want, whenever you want (instant access)?

Best advice you'll get on this thread. Not been a customer for 2 years, yet still had to write yet another complaint letter recently for another family member who has been treated appallingly. Avoid Abbey at all costs, what was a good company in the 80s is a appalling mess in the 00s.

You could have had one of the three Bradford and Bingley accounts I closed last week because they became Abbey accounts,I wont touch them with a bargepole.
The money I took off them has been given to the Yorkshire BS (cashcard) and the ISA to Newcastle BS,I prefer my money to be in a 100% owned British company(and I vote for the Scottish Nationalists!)

Abbey will only recommend Abbey accounts. Surprise!

So you miss out on considering the option of 3600 other accounts, many of which will be better.

What about the Abbey current a/c that pays 6% on balances up to £2.5k fxd for 12mths?

You have to to circle £1k through the a/c every month. Not sure about the other t&c's.
