Post Office Homephone Indirect Access.

In their new T&C they hint at some stage they may charge for Indirect Access.

    When I was with them up to 18 months ago Post Office Homephone already used to charge calls dialled with the 1280 code (mainly 0871 numbers for calling international mobiles that their calls supplier Cable & Wireless were at that stage blocking unless the 1280 override code was used) at BT Standard rates and not BT Together rates and I suppose they could add further penalty handling charges on top for calls routed by BT that the customer has no billing arrangement with if they choose to.

    However they cannot bill you for calls made with say 1899.com or 18185.co.uk because they know nothing about them as those calls are simply billed direct to the customer by those websites. All they can do in that area is to implement Indirect Access Call Barring if they think it is costing them enough money (given the non tech savvy customer profile of the average Post Office Homephone customer they have probably decided it is not worth the extra cost per line).

    As I am currently considering moving back to Post Office HomePhone from https://www.yourcalls.net (who did not seem to appreciate being told that they were in violation of numerous Ofcom guidances and terms and conditions at various points in my time with them) can you assure me that at the moment all Indirect Access codes are still fully available on Post Office HomePhone lines? If they ever did block them as they do not have a minimum contract period I could always then go back to BT but of course only to fall in to the hands of their disgraceful auto renewing12 month minimum Contract Term which the overpaid goons at Ofcom have as usual turned a blind eye to.

    My only other option to avoid a 12 month contract is to go to https://www.thephone.coop who have a 3 month contract (dropping to one months notice after two months) but although I support the principle of what they are doing their lack of inclusive evening and weekend calls do not make them very attractive as long as I can use Indirect Access with Post Office Homephone in the weekday daytime.
