Got an old lappy that's bust so I've connceted the HDD to my new pc via usb.
I can find the email folders on the old HDD (.dbx files) but can't work out where to move them to so that they can be read through Outlook 2007 on my new pc.
any ideas?

As far as I am aware, .dbx files are created by Outlook Express, not Outlook. You can import mail into Outlook by first saving or exporting the files in .pst format, do you have this option available?0

your new pc runs Vista ?
Create a new folder in your user account documents directory,
Copy all dbx files into it
Open folder / Edit / Select All go to properties uncheck read only
In Windows Mail go to File / Import Messages and choose appropriate format and Select import from a directory. go to your new folder
Now Import.0 -
Similar in Outlook Express.
Move the DBX files as above and then in OE select File / Import / Messages.0 -
Tried using Windows Mail: File>import>messages>Microsoft OE 6>Import from an OE6 store>browse - went to folder, selected it - got:
"No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open.
Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have the files open"
Couldn't go any further. Any thoughts? Am I doing something wrong (only had Windows mail open, no other applications running)0 -
I guess you are going to give Windows Mail a try then instead of Outlook 2007? As for the message about files being open, how about copying the entire folder to another location, and then trying to import your mail from the copy?0

Thanks for the reply, tried with Outlook2007 and it didn't seem to give any options to browse to the folder, W-Mail did, but gave the problem above - even when I'd moved them to another folder. Any thoughts?
(old machine was probably running outlook express - was on XP)0
