Getting emails off old laptop hard drive?

Got an old laptop that's kaput, so I've shoved the HDD in a case and connected it to my new pc via usb.

I've located the email folders (.dbx files) but can't work out where to move them to to get them to appear in outlook (Outlook 2007).

Anyone got any ideas?

normal back up of Outlook 2007 files is pst. if not mistaken - .dbx for Outlook Express? not sure if this helps?

Try copying to desktop then perform an import in outlook picking up the file.

.dbx are infact OE files as you've been advised and they should go under your 'profile' in OE. You should be able to find it if you click Tools\Internet Options\ I can't remember where, but there's a button in there and under the button there's a 'ghosted' location underneath it where the profile data was stored.

You could try the following, put the .dbx files into a folder, then use this program: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23383-order,4-c,email/description.html to extract the data, you can get an idea how it works here: http://www.oehelp.com/dbxtract/DBXtract.jpg

Or you could try this: http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-2000/dbx-files-in-outlook-express/62187.html

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.
