Will I need to net strawberries in hanging baskets and if so how?
Ok OH noticed some hanging baskets of strawberries in morrisons. Quite big and with about 3 plants full of flowers and green berries on them for £4.99.
So we now have 2. Have hung them from our metal archway in the back garden so they have some protection from birds because of the frame above them.
Just wondering if I need to drap netting over them as well to avoid the birds having a feast. Also how do I add the netting, I pondered just draping it over the basket hook and then down.
Finally any ideas on the variety as it didn't say. Called hanging basket strawberries on the label. Have pink flowers and states fruits from june to october?

Funnily enough, the birds don't seem to notice the hanging baskets in my garden - but it would be wise to net them anyway- just drape net over the whole thing as you said.Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0

Hi Alibobsy What if you bought some of these kids windmills the ones on a stick, stick it in your hanging baskets and when it turns it scares the birds away :T I think or some strips of foil tied someway to the basket. anyway what do i know i am still trying to fix my greenhouse window :doh:The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

If the flowers are pink they are likely to be an Alpine variety - very small but very tasty fruit.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

Thanks for that balloo, not a bad idea and will look a little more pleasing than netting everywhere lol.
Sorry about the window.
Have you been able to use the greenhouse as it stands? Mine is like a jungle now lol. The courgettes, toms and cucumbers are enormous. Much bigger than the ones in my raised beds.

Hmmmm there is one berry that is pretty big, but funny shaped as tho it was going to be 2 berries but didn't split properly. Sort of a siamese berry lol. The others are still green yet, but not very big. Sounds good. That would explain then why the label says it fruits right through then.
