we have applyed for a house, the landlord runs a housing company that owns half the houses in the village my husband grew up in so we are well known there. they let their houses through howkins and harrison. we have viewed the house and put in for the credit checks which we know we have both got a bad credit history and have quite a few debts that have dragged on from 10 years ago and are being paid at reduced payments. we paid £45 per check and also told the estate agents about our credit history. (our rent here is all up to date) we were then told that if we fail the credit checks we will be asked to find a guarentor. both parents agree to this if needed, both dads are working but are in council rented accomodation. will they be suitable .

£45 each, for the credit checks, we were told every estate agent will charge for a credit check so we didnt question it. does the guarentor not have to own their own home ?0

£45 is cheap compared to where I live £130-175 EACH!!!0

Yeah, people are only querying your credit checking at £45 because it's the cheapest (by about £100) that anybody here's ever heard of

Parents will probably be fine as guarantors. What they're looking for is: somebody who has a job that pays enough for that job to cover the rent. One figure bandied about for affordability is often 40% of takehome pay.0 -
Someone who can afford to pay your rent if you don't.0
