My recently married daughters photographer placed 50 of the best in an album, the other 250 plus are on a disc. These have now been copied to my laptop. My wife who dosen't use the net, would like to have the pics transferred back to a disc of her own so that she can view them on our DVD recorder.
We tried to transfer them onto a CD-RW 700mb (80mins) disc but a box came up saying the there wasn't sufficient space on the disc.
We then tried a DVD-RW 4.7GB (120min) disc and after they'd all been transferred, the DVD player wouldn't recognise it.,
So do we want a CD-RW or CD+RW?
or should it be a DVD-RW or DVD+RW?
either way, what size/capacity should it be please.

I imagine it'll have to be a DVD rather than a CD if the photos are good quality. The problem is that your DVD recorder isn't reading the disk. Depending on the type of DVD player you can take off the region specific coding which sometimes means that different types of DVD can be played; then either of your DVDs should play I imagine. Let us know what sort of DVD player you have and I'm sure somebody will be able to help... .0 -
Have you considered dropping the photos into Windows Movie Maker and creating a slideshow onto DVD that way?
Maybe the player doesn't like the RW's. Some don't. If the player is jpg compatible then copying the pictures onto a DVD-R should work.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
My DVD recorder is a Panasonic DMR-EX77EB model if that helps.
As for a flash drive, on Saturday I bought a Buffallo External Hard Drive USB 2.0 Hard Drive and with it came a free Flash Drive.
(Free Buffalo 2Gb Flash Pen when you bought with this drive station. To receive special offer add both items to your trolley. Offer ends 24th July 2009. £9.99 )This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
According to the specs I've found on that player it says it can read JPEG. Is it definitely JPG/JPEG format that the photos are in ? Maybe that's the problem. Can you put the DVD back into the PC and view them there ? This will at least tell you if the disc is working.0

Insert the original disc into your computer
Go to 'My Computer' (XP) or 'Computer' (Vista/Win7) right click on the cd drive and select properties - what type of disc is it and what is the space used listed as?
What type of files are on the dvd? if they are jpeg - then your dvd player needs to support jpeg
if they are some other file format your dvd is unlikely to support them and they will need to be converted to jpeg/photo slideshow
what is the model of your dvd player?0 -
I don't have the original copy of the CD, that is with my daughter.

Well it definately supports jpeg (and it also supports SD cards so you could use one of them instead of a dvd aswell)
check the photos on your laptop hard drive what format are they
right click the folder that they are in and click properties to see what size the folder is0 -

When I rt clic on the folder name, properties is not an option shown.

I have had a peek at the user manual for this model. If I understand it correctly, it will play JPG or jpg (not jpeg). In addition, it will not read these from a DVD. Supported media are CD, HDD, RAM & SD.
The images must also be between 34 x 34 and 6144 x 4096 pixels.
The machine cannot recognise more than 3000 images, or 300 folders.
So for it to work you first need to check the images are not too big or small and that they have the correct file extension.
You also need to find a way of fitting the pictures onto a CD. If there is not enough room as you mentioned earlier, spread the pictures over more than one disc.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0
