any ideas where to find cheap large plant pots?

i've seen shocking prices for plastic terracotta pots, wilkos online and B&Q only seem to sell expensive brands.

I got some SOPRARCO 7.5 black pots for 60p each ( like these ) from a garden centre, but it's a bit of schlep to go back there.

I found some of ebay, but it's £6 ish for p+p.

anyone know where to buy them?

thanks

no luck with freecycle - people seem to hang onto big pots.
will look out for free/cheap florist pots, although they aren't as good for my purposes as they a bit unstable due to being narrow and tall. I have a potty garden :)

Do they need to be hard plastic pots? Depending on what you want them for, you can get strong plastic poly-pots, 10 for about £4.50 incl postage on Ebay. I've got some toms in some at the moment, probably good for flowers and seeds, less so for repotting stuff with stiff roots I'd imagine

In Wyvale they recycle the old tree buckets, pots and modules, free to take home, ask at the reception.

    Hi blue-kat,

I got my black plastic pots from the flower section at Morrisons. They sell 10 for 99p which is a bargain and I think they hold about 10 litres of compost. I have planted all my tomato/chilli plants in them and they are doing fine. I hot footed it down there having read a previous thread on this forum. I just drilled some holes in the bottom of them! Hope you have a Morrisons near you, or you may be able to get them at Tesco. I don't know if they do them there as well.
    Hope this helps.
  • our local co-op gives these away - always worth asking!

The bigger supermarkets give them away if they sell flowers they have them the flowers are delivered in these buckets so they are greatful to see people taking them away cuz they dont take up room in their skips.

check out any new-builds in your area..the landscapers contracted to plant up amenity areas usually skip the large pots that shrubs and trees come in and would be glad to let you take them.. In this way I picked up a lifetime supply of large pots mainly 10 litre (bucket size) but some smaller ones and much much larger ones with the handles each side ..

thanks Squack - great tip, keep an eye on any landscape garden projects.

I got 2 window boxes from a skip outside clean up job at dental lab.
instead of replanting, they binned the plastic boxes:huh:

I was appalled at misuse of skip - it was full of dental records (which could have been shredded at recycled), mendable garden furniture, and plaster casts for dental work.
