Now, or in 9 months time?

My partner and I are getting married next July. We want a house (FTB) a month or two before we get married, so the latest we want to get one is around April/May of next year.

We’ve seen loads of houses, none of them quite fit the bill yet, but we’re seeing one on Wednesday that looks great. We could get it for £250k and I’m pretty sure that at it’s peak it would go for £280 - £300k. If it’s great we’ll go for it.

But I’m not sure if we should get in now or just wait for prices to continue to drop?

Might we get a better bargain if we wait 6-9 months?

The Chaces of property prices in General being higher in 9 months time are Zero IMO ! ...... However if & when you see a property that you really like make an offer, under thoes circumstances your purchase should be seen as a Home first & foremost more than say an investment ..
  • i am currently in the process of buying a first home, wasnt in any particular hurry to buy BUT then found a house that i just had to have, it was in budget and some people did say that the prices may drop a bit more or maybe even a lot more but i in my own mind decided i had to have it and i am now waiting for contracts to be exchanged etc etc, it depends on the situation i guess, can you comfortably afford it, are you lookin to move in for the long term? does resale value particularly bother you, and more importantly does the house tick all the boxes for now and the future? only you can decide if its the right house for you and on another note, whats to say in 6-9 months the house will still be available or anything as nice, on the other hand something better may come along :D thats something i think only you can really decide based on how much you want the house, food for thought i hope :D

You don't need to buy a house if you get married. Love is allowed in rented properties too.:kisses3:

It's a "how long is a piece of string" question. Who knows what is going to happen with house prices but if you're ready to buy now, then I'd go for it if you find a good deal on a house you like.

Buying a property and getting married are 2 of life's most stressful events so I wouldn't want to do both anywhere near each other! Imagine if you thought you were about to buy in April / May and something went wrong and you lost a property. That would be unnecessary stress in my view.

Best of luck with both the wedding and the housebuying!

Heh, we moved house two weeks after my wife gave birth to our first child. Talk about getting all of your stress in one big dose :)

    She was early, BTW!
