I apologise if this is something that has come up before but I couldn't find anything.

I am hopefully about to move from a one bedroom flat, to a house a couple of miles away. I took advantage last year of a BT offer to connect a line for free, but had to agree to an 18 month contract which costs around £14 a month. It was quite popular with people so I am sure some will remember it.

Now, I have no problem in continuing with BT. What my questions are, are these:

1) Would BT charge me a fee, or can I take the 18 month contract I am in with me to the new address?

2) Do BT allow you to take the number with you to your new address....or is it a case of being given a new number?

3) Does anyone have any knowledge on what Tiscali are like when it comes to cancelling? I have read they can be a pain in the behind and have not been able to find a cancellation number either.

My questions are more landline based so I hope it's ok to post it here rather than in the internet section.

I haven't phoned BT customer services as past experience tells me it would take up to 2 hours to get through.

Thanks in advance for any advice. ;)

EDITED TO ADD: Have just found that the new house is under a different exchange if that is any help.

    1) I think if their is no line their they will try and get you to pay a connection fee, but I think the free connection offer is still on though you have to mention it yourself they won't tell you about it, yes you can take the contract with you
    2) You should be able to keep the number if you are connected to same exchange/not moving into an area which has a different area code

I usually get through quite quick whenever I have rung 150

edit: I guess it depends on if it is a different area code then probably

"If you move home within the UK, and let us know at least five full working days before you do so and in line with our home mover policy we will continue to provide the service at your new address subject to our home mover policy and paragraphs 5 and 6 of the BT Telephony Services price terms. If we continue the service at your new address you will be subject to a new line rental minimum period from the date we provide service at your new address. You do not have to take your existing Calling Plan with you to your new address, but if you had a Calling Plan with a renewable contract or a minimum period at your old address and agree to take the same Calling Plan at your new address, you will be able to take the remainder of any minimum period for that Calling Plan with you."

Plus if their is not a working BT Line at the new address you may well have to pay a connection charge.

    2. As your moving to a new exchange area your be allocated a new number.
