Bank charges can the bank charge because of a charge

Hi
I have been trying to close my Alliance and Leicester bank acout as i get under funding fees as the account had problems from the start.

I settled all outstanding ballances on it so the account was 0 but was not aloud to close it since there was a £5 underfunding charge to be applied.

I now went to close it this month and the bank are now wanting to charge me £80 as they took there under funding charge and that maid me go overdrawn so they have charged me for going overdrawn £5 a day.

I am still overdrawn and to pay the £80 I will have to wait for 4 working days as that is how long it will take to transfer the money in from another account as there is not alliance and leicester banks close to me

Can you advise if the bank is aloud to charge due to a charge

thanks

  • I think you need to write to A&L and explain that clearly there was an error in the information you were given and that you want the account closed as you don't use it anymore. You are prepared to pay £5 under funding for the one month that it was not closed but no more.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

Actually the very same thing has happened to me. Last Friday I went in to the A&L branch and paid the £5 to try to clear the debt and close the a/c but they wouldn't close the a/c. They are now trying to screw me for a further £65 for having put me in the red on an a/c I didnt have a overdrawing facility on anyway. After my complaints on the phone they have written saying "as a gesture" they are willing to reduce the fee by £25. Even £40 is a lot. How do I fight this?
