Love MSE - Saved over £1k today!!

I love, love, love this site!!!

Today I have saved;

£81.00 - Got my Sky £21 per month down to £7.50 for 6 months.

£1,106 - Had a 0% for 9 months deal on MBNA card offered (had cleared the card last month) and have managed to move £13k's worth of balance transfers to it saving that much interest!!

Would not have done either of these things if I hadn't become a DFW Nerd!

It's brilliant to be able to see exactly how much you are saving by implementing the advice shared on here. Hope all other Newbies are learning how to switch and save along the way!! Love it!

    Hi Njc12,

    I had seen many other DFW's get reductions on their Sky fee when they had phoned up and said they wanted to cancel. A few had not managed it and Sky had just said OK and cancelled their account, but others had got 3 or 6 months at a reduced price.

    My OH phoned them today and said that I was going to be off work for 6 months (a little white lie, with fingers crossed behind his back) and that we wondered if we could 'suspend' our account as we were needing to make some savings at the moment but didn't want the hassle of re-subscribing when we wanted to come back in 6 months time. Straight away they said they would give us 6 months at £7.50, no problem!

    I know it was a little dishonest but they have taken a lot of money off us over the last 6 years!

    Good luck if you try it. Apparently someone who used to work for Sky was posting on here and said that Thurs and Fri were the best days to try as they have a certain number of deals they can offer each week and have usually used them up by Sat.
